In most cases, the words in sentences need a little help in order to make the intended meaning crystal clear. Verbs are no exceptions. Luckily, there are helping verbs to stand up and do just that. Our learners were learning about helping verbs and therefore they were divided into pairs wherein, one partner had to make a sentence without saying the helping verb. The teacher wrote the sentence on the chart. Cut outs of helping verbs were made (is, am, are). The other partner had to place the appropriate helping verb in the sentence. The learners not only enjoyed the activity but understood the importance of a helping verb in a sentence. The rules of helping verbs were reinforced through this activity.
