Virtual Tour – United Nations Office (Vienna)

Our Grade IV & V learners are inquiring into the unit of ‘How we organise ourselves’. This is an inquiry into the interconnectedness of human-made systems and communities; the structure and function of organizations; societal decision-making and their impact on humankind and the environment. We had special guests from The United Nations Office from Vienna (UNOV), Ms. Katharina Naraghi (Head of Virtual Tours) and Mr. Matteo Paone (Consultant). Vienna is one of the four major office sites of the United Nations where numerous different UN agencies have a joint presence. School children make up two-thirds of visitors to the UN every year. More than 50,000 people usually visit the UN in Vienna every year. Through this tour the learners were able to understand and explore the systems in the world through a global perspective. The virtual tour was focused on the introduction of the United Nations, its sustainable development goals and their impact on our world. Our learners had very insightful information about SDGs and the importance of self initiated action. We also had an interactive session with our esteemed speakers wherein our learners asked questions with regards to the functioning of the organization, UN goals and how could they help contribute to the UN. This tour has given our learners an opportunity to make inferences connecting to the action component in our inquiry process.
