Celebrating women leaders and lifelong learning in education

“Opportunities don't come from positions… they come from passion, purpose, and perseverance.”

I am Dr. Madhuri Gour, and my journey from being Madhuri to earning my PhD has been one of growth, grit, and gratitude. This story is not only about academic achievements but also about the experiences, challenges, and support that shaped me into the educator and leader I am today.

Family: The Foundation of Growth

My family has been the cornerstone of my journey. Their belief in my decisions and constant encouragement shaped my confidence. I carry my father’s words with me: “The queen doesn’t need a crown; she needs people who love her and respect her.” These words taught me that true respect is earned.

My husband, Mr. Vishal Gour, has also been a pillar of strength, supporting me through every stage of my career and personal growth.

JBCN International School: Nurturing Potential

My professional identity is deeply intertwined with JBCN International School, Borivali. From my first day, the school inspired me to believe in myself. Over 15 years, JBCN provided opportunities that helped me grow—from becoming the IAYP Coordinator to leading the Social Outreach Project, receiving the OLL Skill Citizenship Excellence Award, and earning the Mountain Mover Award for two consecutive years.

At JBCN, learners and educators are encouraged to embrace challenges, and this environment shaped my journey as a teacher, leader, and mentor.

Continuous Learning and Leadership

Although I began as a Hindi teacher, I continuously pursued learning and development. I completed my M.Com, followed by a Masters in Hindi, and became a CENTA Trainer. I facilitated Teacher-help-Teacher workshops, school reform sessions, and represented JBCN on various platforms. These experiences reinforced that a Hindi teacher can also be a leader, a changemaker, and an inspiration.

Achieving a PhD: A Defining Milestone

One of the most transformative moments of my career was completing my PhD: “हिंदी की बाल कहानियों का बालकों के जीवन पर प्रभाव का विवेचनात्मक अध्ययन”

My research explored the impact of Hindi children’s stories on young learners, and the journey was filled with challenges, sleepless nights, and moments of self-doubt. I was fortunate to have guidance from my PhD mentor, Dr. Manju Chaturvedi, whose mentorship strengthened my resilience and shaped my perspective as a researcher and educator.

Completing my PhD was even more meaningful because I became the first woman from my village, Vassi (Rajasthan), to achieve this milestone—a step that inspired many women to dream bigger and create their own identities.

Inspiring Others Through Teaching and Leadership

My journey continued as I became a JBCN Master Trainer, reaffirming the school’s trust in my potential. One of the most memorable compliments I received was: “You are an inspiration for Hindi teachers.” This recognition reminded me of my father’s words—the real crown is in the hearts of those who respect and believe in you.

Key Lessons from My Journey

From Madhuri to Dr. Madhuri, my journey has been a story of perseverance, learning, and purpose. The lessons I carry forward are:

  • Believe in yourself when others believe in you
  • Value continuous learning and growth
  • Use every opportunity to inspire and empower others
  • Respect and gratitude are the true marks of achievement

I am deeply grateful to my family, mentors, friends, and the JBCN community for shaping my journey. Their support gave me the real crown—the crown of respect.
